Peer Support is an emerging field that recognizes the invaluable expertise that can be provided by someone who has lived experience with the court system. In addition to being a mentorship and role model, peer specialists are community advocates and help connect clients with needed resources. OPD increases engages peer specialists to join the defense team and recognizes their invaluable role in our multidisciplinary approach.Â

PARENT PEER ADVOCATES - BALTIMORE CITY
The Office of the Public Defender is seeking two (2) Parent Peer Advocates to serve as essential team members in the multidisciplinary representation of parents and guardians who are involved in the family regulation system when their children are separated from them by the Department of Social Services.

CERTIFIED PEER RECOVERY SPECIALISTS -- STATEWIDE

The Office of the Public Defender is seeking certified peer recovery specialists to serve as essential team members on projects that encourage community-based treatment for justice involved individuals with a substance use disorder. Peer Recovery Specialists assist in identifying and connecting individuals with appropriate recovery supports, developing motivation for recovery, and establishing and maintaining recovering lifestyles.
