Social Work Grant Opportunities
All Positions Require licensure with the Maryland Board of Social Workers (LMSW or LCSW-C). Both levels of licensure will be considered for grant positions, with salary commensurate with experience. Below are brief descriptions of our current grant opportunities.
Social Worker (LMSW, LCSW-C) - Juvenile
The Maryland Office of the Public Defender (OPD) seeks a licensed social worker to be a key member of the team working to develop and implement community-based alternatives to detention for justice-involved youth in Prince George’s County who have a mental health and/or substance abuse issue.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct screenings, needs assessments, and develop service plans for justice involved youth with behavioral health concerns.

Collaborate with OPD attorneys and area service providers to coordinate treatment with the juvenile case.

Conduct outreach about the program and services with the juvenile court and community stakeholders.

Assist with data collection and project reporting.

Social Worker (LMSW, LCSW-C) - Youthful Defenders
The Maryland Office of the Public Defender (OPD) seeks a licensed social worker to serve as a team member to provide defense-based forensic social work services, including mitigation, to adolescents who are charged as adults and their families to provide linkage to resources that address structural barriers to success and will aid in reducing recidivism.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide clinical and forensic social work services in an indigent defense environment, including mitigation, to adolescent clients charged with crimes in adult court.

Conduct psychosocial evaluations and testify regarding clinical findings and recommendations.

Collaborate with OPD attorneys to create a defense strategy for the legal disposition of criminal or delinquent cases.

Social Worker (LCSW-C) - Parents
The Maryland Office of the Public Defender (OPD) seeks an experienced licensed social worker to assist families in addressing poverty-related issues that often lead to family separation, improve family engagement, and reduce the number of Child In Need of Assistance (CINA) petitions filed in Juvenile Court..

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide clinical assessments, implement plans to identify and address mental health concerns, substance use disorder (SUD), the effects of trauma, and connect families to desired services and evidence-based services.

Advocate for clients in an interdisciplinary setting.

Navigate community resources and bureaucratic agencies.
